Employee Food Drive
If we had to describe our employees on a personal basis, one of the
first words to come to mind would be, generous. Whatever the need,
when the hat gets passed for a co-worker at our facility, it comes
back full. So when we embarked on our first
Employee Food Drive
in 2004, we weren’t surprised with the results. Mounds of
non-perishables, personal care items and clothing piled up for our
local food pantry, and many needy families were helped.
This year’s drive takes place just before Easter, and we are confidant
that our employees will make this Easter a little happier for those
less fortunate in our community!
May 3
Seneca Falls/Waterloo HHW Event
Once
again, Seneca Meadows will be helping out at the Seneca Falls/Waterloo
Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event. This is a great program for
residents wanting to rid their homes of environmental hazards
and other non-hazardous but hard-to-get-rid-of stuff, like:
fluorescent bulbs, air conditioners, automotive tires, automotive
rechargeable batteries, old computers, electronics and propane tanks.
Last year more than 250 families
from the towns and villages of Seneca Falls and
Waterloo
signed up for this one-day event. Over 25 drums/11,000 pounds of
solvents, pesticides, oxidizers, acids, mercury and sludge was taken
by Clean Harbors Environmental Services to a treatment facility. In
addition, a total of 450 tires, 54 propane tanks, 53 air conditioners,
77 auto batteries and 19 pallets stacked full of computers and
electronics were shipped off for recycling.

Mulch Give-Away
Two scoops: That’s what residents of
Seneca
County
receive when they come out for our annual Mulch Give-away Day; and
boy, do they come out! People from every corner of the county show up
for this one-day event to get a pick-up truck or containers filled
with red or brown northern hardwood mulch.
Mulch is a great addition to any landscape. It helps control weeds in
flower beds and around the base of trees and shrubs, it enriches the
soil, and it makes your yard look like the showpiece of the
neighborhood!
Mid-July
Environmental

Center
Opening
The
Seneca
Meadows
Environmental
Education
Center
will be a place of learning for all ages, with fun events for
children, entertaining speakers and workshops for adults, and hands-on
science programs for high schools. Our schedule of events will be
posted on this website as July approaches.
September 7
Landfill Open House
Although we give tours all year round, once a year we open our doors to
the whole community for the IESI-Seneca Meadows Landfill Open House!
It’s a fun-filled and educational afternoon for families and
individuals who want to learn more about modern waste management and
protecting the environment.
Activities at the event include: tours of our facility, games for the
kids, a catered barbeque, live entertainment, technical
demonstrations, and opportunity for one-on-one conversations with our
engineers and consultants. Keep an eye on the Finger Lakes Times and
Reveille Between The Lakes for details of the event as we approach
September 7th.
October 27-31
Halloween Safety Program
“Safety First” is not just a slogan on the back of our work shirts,
it is a mindset at IESI-Seneca Meadows that protects our workers,
subcontractors and neighbors from accident or incident. When we team
up with our local law enforcement agencies to provide Halloween Safety
programs to grade schoolers, we teach these same principles of safety
to the kids.
The programs are a lot of fun, with silly skits and audience
participation, but they also include a serious talk time with
policemen. Every student who attends our programs, receives a glow
stick, (compliments of Seneca Meadows), to help keep them safe on
Halloween night.
