At Seneca Meadows, recycling waste tires benefits the environment by reducing mosquito breeding grounds, preventing the devastating pollution caused by tire fires, and conserving natural resources. The Seneca Meadows Tire Recycling Facility is a NYSDEC registered operation that processes 1 to 2 million car and light truck tires per year for on-site use. The three inch tire chip product is primarily employed as a drainage material for leachate in the landfill liner system, but is also used in landfill gas collection and road construction.
